Research shows that college graduates do dramatically better across a vast range of life outcomes. Income. Crime. Unemployment. Civic engagement. Life expectancy. All driven by education, or the lack of it.
CHICAGO IS NOT preparing students to succeed
The demand for college graduates is higher than ever. A recent study forecasts that by 2018, 42% of all jobs in Illinois will require a college degree. Among STEM professions, the rate soars to 82%. And yet, despite decades of reform efforts, only 14% of Chicago Public School students are graduating from college by the age of 25. We are failing to prepare our students—and our region—to succeed in the 21st century.
