About

Roosevelt University’s Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corp (MCTC) aims to provide high dosage tutoring to elementary school students while bolstering Chicago’s teacher and school leader candidate pipelines.

Why We Invested

Roosevelt University has experience delivering high dosage tutoring and using research back methods for improving students’ reading attainment and growth. There is a significant need right now to expand this type of tutoring to address pandemic-related unfinished learning. In one estimate, the U.S. Department of Education reports that late elementary and early middle school students are roughly six to ten weeks behind in reading aptitude expectations.

Looking Ahead

By year three, Roosevelt aims to serve 1200 students in 24 schools through its Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps. Its leadership intends the first year of pilot implementation to fully develop the literacy tutoring components and program for maximum impact on student literacy growth and social-emotional wellness, while planning for future exponential growth both within Roosevelt and across colleges and universities in the Chicago metropolitan area.
